The first thing we notice when we look at the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf betting trends is the home team has not won in a while.
Four of the last five winners of the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf were won by European invaders and the other shipped in from Japan. The last U.S. based winner of the race was Sistercharlie ($8.60) in 2018 at Churchill Downs. The filly was trained by Chad Brown and it was his fourth win in the race.

Inspiral Gets Job Done as Fav
Inspiral was the first betting favorite to win the race last year since Dank paid $5.00 to win in 2013 at Santa Anita.
It is tough to win this race on the front end. The Brown trained Dayatthespa was the last gate to wire winner in 2014 at Santa Anita, paying $13.00. The only other winer to go gate to wire was Intercontinental ($32.20) for trainer Bobby Frankel.
Three-year-old fillies have fared well in recent years, taking four editions in the last eight, all four Euro invaders.
The key Euro prep is the Prix de la Opera in France, which has produced three of the last seven winners of this race. The key races to look at for the U.S based runners are the Flower Bowl, First Lady and Diana.
While the 12-14 posts are a combined 1 for 28, the 11 post has produced three winners. The best post to date has been the five post which has produced six winners.
While the turf figures to be firm, the overseas runners have handled it well in the editions that have been run in Southern California, winning six of the last seven at either Santa Anita or Del Mar.
Winning Profile
The 2024 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf betting trends show that the Euros have been dominant in recent years and this year it could be more of the same. Both John Gosden, who won this race last year and Aiden O’Brien who won this race in 2022 appear likely to have a pair of major players in this year’s race. And let’s not forget about Charlie Appleby, who saddled 2017 winner Wuheida ($24.40). Appleby has won 10 Breeders’ Cup races.
The Euro invader should have a first or a second in a G1 race, preferably a sharp outing in the Prix de la Opera. The filly or Mare should have good late foot, and it is important to find some value as the betting favorite has not done well in recent years in this race.
