Canterbury Park opened in Shakopee, Minnesota in 1985 as Canterbury Downs. The track had its ups and downs, closing in 1992, reopening the following year and was renamed Canterbury Park in 1995. The main track is one mile in length and their turf course is seven furlongs.
Canterbury Park generally runs from May until September. The 2025 lid lifter is May 24 with closing day slated for September 20. Most race days are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and there is live racing on three Thursdays during the 2025 meeting.
