There will be 14 new world champions who will be crowned at the 2024 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Del Mar on Nov. 1-2.

The two-day championship event offers $30 million in purses and an endless supply of great wagering opportunities for horseplayers.

First run in 1984 at Hollywood Park over one day and seven races, the Breeders’ Cup has now expanded into a two-day format and 14 races. The highlight of the day is the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

Rick Dutrow trained White Abario won the 2023 edition of the Classic with Irad Ortiz Jr. aboard.

Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series

Most of the participants of the Breeders’ Cup earn their way in by participating in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series of races.

The 2024 “Win and You’re In” slate of races are contested worldwide, 40 races with the winner of each race stamping an all expenses paid trip to Del Mar.

In addition to important stakes in the U.S., there are Breeders’ Cup Challenge races run in Korea, U.K., Ireland, France, and Canada making the Breeders’ Cup truly an international event.
