The Belmont Stakes is the third jewel of the Triple Crown and will be contested on Saturday June 7, 2025.

The 2024 and 2025 editions of the Belmont Stakes are being held at Saratoga while Belmont Park is being remodeled.

Danny Gargan trained Dornach to win the 2024 running, the first ever contested at Saratoga. Ridden by Luis Saez, the colt returned $37.40 to win.

The Belmont Stakes, first run in 1867, is the oldest of the Triple Crown events. It predates the Preakness Stakes (first run in 1873) by six years and the Kentucky Derby (first run in 1875) by eight. Aristides, the winner of the first Kentucky Derby, ran second in the 1875 Belmont behind winner Calvin.

Baker’s Dozen Win Triple Crown

History has been made 13 times with the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness coming to New York to sweep the series of races for three-year-olds.

American Pharoah ended nearly a four-decade drought by winning the Triple Crown in 2015 for trainer Bob Baffert. Just three years later Baffert returned to win his second Triple Crown with Justify.

Rowe Leads With Eight Winners

Trainer James Rowe leads all trainers with eight trips to the winner’s circle in the Belmont Stakes. Winners were George Kinney (1883), Panique (1884), Commando (1901), Delhi (1904), Peter Pan (1907), Colin (1908), Sweep (1910) and Prince Eugene (1913).

The leading active trainers in Belmont Stakes with four are Todd Pletcher (Rags to Riches (2007) and Palace Malice (2013), Tapwrit (2017) and Mo Donegal (2022)) and D. Wayne Lukas (Tabasco Cat (1994), Thunder Gulch (1995), Editor’s Note (1996) and Commendable (2000)).
