The eulogies for FanDuel TV keep coming and the question horseplayers are asking is, “How the heck am I going to watch horse racing now?’
While FanDuel TV and its predecessor TVG were a staple in living rooms (and @InsidethePylons basement) across the U.S. for horseplayers for more than two decades, there are plenty of options to watch live horse racing and likely more to come.

Tony Allevato of NYRA has stated that they are ready to pick up the mantle and expand on an already substantial amount of televised horse racing through their partnership with FOX Sports.
“Fans have come to rely on FanDuel TV as a place they can tune in seven days a week at any time of day for horse racing content at all levels,” Allevato told Bloodhorse back in April. “That’s a big hole that is going to need to be filled in some capacity. There’s a lot of premier racing that’s going to need a home, so we are starting to talk with FOX and people at the tracks and in the industry about what we can do about it.”
“We are looking at a product that would be consumable from a digital, over-the-top standpoint so that customers would be able to see wall-to-wall racing coverage that bounces from track to track,” he said. “That’s a product that can live in different places that we would not charge the customer for and would be easily accessible.”
In the meantime, what options do we have?
The most obvious one is that all ADWs carry live feeds of every track. At Iron Bets we have the video feeds of over 500 racetracks from the U.S. and worldwide.
While some horseplayers are upset that FanDuel TV is going to eliminate the on air hosts, some tracks have knowledgeable on-air talent that focus on their racetracks and produce a solid simulcast production.
Among my favorites are the NYRA tracks, Woodbine and Monmouth Park that offer horseplayers a good alternative to FanDuel TV. It appears Los Alamitos is going to expand their simulcast production while adding on air talent. Hopefully other tracks will step up their production.
There are a few tracks that have not updated their simulcast signal and graphics in two decades, hire incompetent on air talent, some which are not even on site at the track. With the vast majority of wagering handle coming from players online, their television production will have to improve or they will see their handle continue to decline.
As far as actually accessing the signals, there are other options than streaming them through your ADW or using FanDuelTV.

Watch Live Horse Racing on Racetrack Television (RTN)
RTN offers many different packages that allow you to stream their service on your television or mobile devices.
For just $15 a month you can access all thoroughbred and quarterhorse tracks and a replay library. There are some harness tracks as well as access to America’s Day at the Races from FOX.

One gripe I see from horseplayers is America’s Day at the Races bounces between FOX, FS1 and FS2 and is hard to find. This has become the norm in sports. Finding a MLB or NFL game sometimes means searching through a half dozen streaming apps and television channels to find it.
You can watch America’s Day at the Races throughout the day on YouTube without changing the channel. It is also available on RTN without looking for the remote. Streaming is here to stay while legacy television channels are going obsolete, so we might as well get used to it. There is nothing we can do to stop it.
It is also great to see that NYRA has been utilizing some of the former TVG/FanDuel TV talent and hopefully we will see a few of them contributing in the future, namely familiar faces like Todd Schrupp, Simon Bray and Andie Biancone.
I think we all knew when TVG was rebranded FanDuel TV, changes were coming. Well, they are here. I watched very little FDTV the past four or five years except for the morning Breeders’ Cup shows, which were outstanding. Honestly, this is not going to be much of a change for me.
It may take some getting used to, but there are still plenty of ways to consume horse racing content. We just need to see more creativity on how it is distributed in the next year.
And yes, I’ll miss the Sham Wow and Flex Seal guys too.
